Vicky Pope - GRACE
Vicky Pope; I belonged to the Howick Little Theatre during my teenage years.
My family were also quite involved - Dad built sets and Mum sewed costumes.
I attended drama lessons at the Howick Little theatre; HLT. And as a young adult I was in many
plays on stage. This was over 30 years ago so it is hard to remember all
of them but stand outs were Baby Moa in ‘Kiwi Magic’, Augusta Gloop in ‘Charlie
and the Chocolate Factory’ and Mary MacGegor in’ The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie’.
I had to stammer in a Scottish accent in "Jean Brodie" as
Mary had a speech impediment. Thirty years on and I can still quote
many of Miss Brodie's lines - they obviously had quite an impact on me.
I was also in an old time Music Hall at the HLT and sang on stage.
I didn't know it before I did that production but I actually had a really good
singing voice. People would come up after the show and ask if I had
had singing training. One of the other cast members was Kerry Smith (from
Gloss) just before she made it famous. Very shortly after that
Music Hall Kerry made it onto the big screen of Gloss and got me a little walk
on part in one of the episodes. I actually met my first husband through
that Music Hall Production and was married at the tender age of 21 and I went
to live in Wanganui... It was the end of my beautiful acting career.
more bios to come.
